New Dentures
If someone has never worn dentures before, they may experience some short term discomfort and teething problems. With the correct information and attention, all difficulties will soon be overcome.
When a patient receives their first dentures, they may experience the feeling of a "full mouth" and can report a gagging sensation. This is not usually a problem, it is simply the mouth adjusting itself and should settle quickly.
Because of the changes, the mouth and tongue are learning new tricks, different ways of chewing, speaking and swallowing; all will become second nature with time.
Once the wearer has adjusted to their dentures, they should be able to eat the foods they did previously and their speech should return to normal.
This recovery can be slower for older denture wearers.
